Through a Large Glass, Darkly

Through a Large Glass, Darkly is comprised of a back-projection screen constructed following the sections and exact dimensions of Marcel Duchamp’s famous work “The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even”  (109.25 in × 69.25 in). The images are projected by two Kodak Ektagraphic slide projectors, controlled and cross-faded by a Tiffen Pro-Dissolve slide projector controller. (The installation has also been adapted for a 2-channel, projection-mapped video onto the upper and lower sections.) The scene involves a clandestine business dealing between two upwardly mobile members of an unspecified elite business class, engaged in what comes to be described as a delay in glass. Parallel to the libidinal congress that Marcel Duchamp describes in his famous work, the dialogue trades in the sexual innuendo of the kind that is rife throughout Wall Street culture. Many thanks to Troy Gronsdahl and Troy Mamer for their performances.
