Anti-Tourism: Treaty Territories
The “Treaty Territories” aspect of Anti-Tourism posits that tourism begins with consumer attitudes toward the place that we call home. Colonialism sees land as a commodity from which to extract resources. To overcome tourism one must engage in a process of overturning such extractivist mentalities. The “Treaty Territory” conversations contemplate decolonization and the TRC call to action #45, namely to “Renew or establish Treaty relationships based on principles of mutual recognition, mutual respect, and shared responsibility for maintaining those relationships into the future.”
